Comments from our Guests

.....and our fifth!.

Emma & Michael,  Glossop Derbyshire - January ’12

Our fourth visit, we need say no more!  Lovely meal in the Austrian restaurant on New Year’s Eve.  Thanks to Jane and Laurence for another lovely holiday.

June & Steve, Staffordshire - New Year 2011/2012

Such a beautiful cottage!  Thanks for a wonderful Christmas.  I brought a tree but you’d already thought of everything.  We’ll definitely be back.  It’s perfect!

Andrea & Don,  London - Christmas 2011

You have created a wonderful space here that really compliments the environment!  Great location for a few days 'retreat'.  Thank you for the little extras in the welcome box - greatly appreciated :)  We need to come back now to experience the Fairy Glen and the Austrian Restaurant!  Many Thanks.

A beautiful space and so welcoming and comfortable for our nourishing retreat.  We really appreciated your thoughtfulness.  We'll be back so we can continue exploring this magnificent area.  Many Thanks.

Viv, Constance & Kate,  Wirral - November '11

Another lovely holiday in North Wales.  Your house really does make it special.  We would recommend the Sychnant Pass House (1 mile up the hill) for a lovely 'special' meal.  Weather was beautiful.  Wish we could stay for longer.  Hope to be back again soon!

Greg & Hazel,  St. Ives, Cambs. - November '11

Another great week at this lovely cottage.  Thank you again Laurence and Jane for letting us stay here.  You deserve the 5 stars!

Sue & Chris,  Farnborough - November '11

Can't tell you how good it felt to come back again.  Ideally placed for everywhere in North Wales.  We have been chasing the sunshine and had a lovely time.  Anglesey for the beaches, Bangor for the castles, Betws-y-Coed for the mountains and even spent time in Conwy which is just lovely, then back here to your lovely cottage in the evening. - I think we will have to come back again :)

Sandra & Steve,  Harrogate - October '11

We particularly recommend Plas Mawr in Conwy, extremely interesting as an almost unique example of an Elizabethan town house and excellently preserved by Cadw.

Mary & Clive,  Croydon - October '11

Our first visit but hopefully not the last!   "Everything" has been written about the cottage and the owners Jane & Laurence, which we agree.  It is nice to see that every care and thought has gone into this project three/four years ago:  Wish you all the best for the future and Thank You!

James & Malcolm,  Bristol - October '11

We have had a most enjoyable holiday  in this lovely, comfortable and well maintained cottage.  The fresh flowers and welcome pack were much appreciated.  We were surprised at the variety of birds visiting the bird feeders.  Nuthatches entertained us every day!  We found lots to do, including walks and places to visit, all within easy reach.

Peter & Rosemary,  Solihull, W. Midlands - October '11

We have had a lovely week in North Wales.  Wern Cottage is a perfect place to stay, for which we thank you.  Also many thanks for the lovely things you left for us.  There is so much to do within an hours drive and the weather this week – well who could ask for more?

 Jenny & Geoff,  Halifax, W.Yorkshire – Sept/Oct ‘11

Our 1st return visit and your high standards have been maintained and much appreciated.  Look forward to seeing you next year at some point!  Many thanks.

 Norma & Glenda,  Maidenhead & Plymouth - September ‘11

This is our second visit to Wern Cottage and everything is as good as the first time.  The cottage is absolutely beautiful, very very comfortable.  The weather was good, only one afternoon of rain, we did plenty of walking and visited more wonderful places.  Highly recommend The Gladstone Pub to eat (LL34 6PS), food very good as well as the staff.  Hope to be back next year.  Thank you very much for a lovely stay.

Pat & Steve,  Welling, Kent – September '11

One of the nicest holiday homes we have stayed in.  During the week we have been able to visit a lot of the north coast of Wales.  The weather was typical Welsh, changeable with Tuesday a complete washout.  So we stayed in all day but with all the supplied games, videos and the birds and animals to entertain us we hardly noticed the weather.

John & Doreen, Cheltenham,  Gloucestershire – September ‘11

Had a lovely week, our grand-daughter wanted to live here all the time.  Being here brought back many happy memories of North Wales.  Hope to come again.

Lynne, David, Bethany & Emma,  Brighouse, N.Yorkshire – August ‘11

Lovely cottage, lovely area.  Thank you for the lovely welcome.  Shame the weather was not wonderful but we made the best of it, cheers.

Hilary & Tony,  Crewe, Cheshire – August ‘11

We have all really enjoyed our week in Wales, this cottage is so lovely, it’s a Laura Ashley, John Lewis fusion which can only be a good thing!  Even our 5 year old was impressed by the soft furnishings.  As for the area, again it has been great.  The weather has been ok/indifferent but it hasn’t really mattered much at all, there are so many lovely places to visit that aren’t far away.  We tried the Austrian restaurant which was brill and also found a really good pub for eating in Llandudno called The Albert which is definitely worth a visit.  All in all, fabulous cottage and holiday.

Andrea, Dave, & Leo,  Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire – August ‘11

Our first visit to Wales was concluded by a week stay in your lovely cottage.  On our first week we visited Mumbles on the Gower peninsular in the south of Wales.  Totally different and both weeks we enjoyed very much.  I must say we were very lucky with the weather.  This place is maybe a bit away from villages but the location is great to visit Snowdonia, Anglesey, Conwy and Llandudno/Great Orme.   But we did not forget the nearby attractions, especially Conwy Mountain (walk started from the parking).  So we had a great time here in your cottage and we can recommend it to everybody (with a car!).

Thank you for having us in your cottage.  P.S. Laurence is a great photographer, but he makes me look like an amateur! ;)

Bram, Tim, Marrelee & Jaap,  Enschede,  The Netherlands – August ‘11

Our second visit to your lovely cottage.  We have had a fantastic week.  It’s just a shame it’s now over.  There’s so much to do here, it’s great.  It was lovely to catch up with you and we have left you a little present in the kitchen.  Thank you!

Helen, Richard, Francesca, Philippa & Edward,  Sevenoaks, Hampshire – July ‘11

This was our first visit to North Wales and we found ourselves in a lovely cottage in a wonderful location.  Despite some mixed weather we found plenty to do in the area and on the wet days it was nice to return to Wern Cottage – clean, warm and cosy.  We shall miss the sheep, chickens, rabbits, birds, squirrels and cat!  Thank you for all the extra surprises.

Andy, Linda & Catherine,  Waterlooville, Hampshire – July '11

Enjoyed a perfect break at Wern Cottage which had everything we needed.  The weather has been fabulous.  Visited Anglesey and saw puffins at South Stack.  Been to Betws-y-Coed and to Snowdon summit.  Climbed the mountain/hill directly to the left of the cottage – well worth it for the view.  Fairy Glen pub serves very large meals!  The location was ideal for us and the cottage exceeded our expectations – thank you.

Jon & Fiona,  Roydon Hamlet, Essex - July ‘11

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area.  We had an excellent week exploring the area.  There is so much to see and do!  Our kids loved all the beaches and Greenwood Forest Park.  Abersoch is just beautiful – worth a visit.  Hope to return to North Wales again – worth the 12 hour ferry journey and the long drive!  Thank you for the very thoughtful welcome basket and wine – it didn’t last long.  Try the Gladstone (LL34 6PS) for a meal – highly recommended.

Eleanor, Joe, Ross & Erin,  Brae, Shetland Islands, Scotland – July ‘11

Beautiful house, wish we could stay forever!  Had a fantastic week walking Snowdon, the Great Orme and the mountains behind the house.  Visited Betws – y Coed, Caernarfon, Conwy, Bodnant gardens and Beaumaris – all wonderful.  The weather has also been good to us.  Thank You Jane & Laurence

Charlotte & Maxine,  S.Birmingham, W.Midlands – June ‘11

Our second visit, everything just as nice with the added bonus of puffins & seals at Puffin Island and South Stack.  The Austrian restaurant provided a delicious meal.  Recommend the ‘Cerismar Two’  boat trip to Puffin Island from Beaumaris Pier.

Liz & Gwyn Griffiths, Farnborough, Hants – June ‘11

We've had a lovely week in 'our' beautiful Wern Cottage.  Very nice weather most of the time.  We went to Conwy, Llandudno, Snowdon and really enjoyed the impressive landscape and nature of North Wales.  Wern Cottage was an absolute delight to stay in and we might return some day, one day....Thanks & Kind Regards.

Wilfred & Anne-Ruth,  Alphen a/d Rijn, Netherlands  - June '11

A really beautiful cottage.  Clean, comfortable and homely.  So well equipped also.  The children have loved naming the squirrels - 'Arnie', 'Maria' and 'Nuts' and watching them climb through the squirrel guard and eat the peanuts!  They have also enjoyed counting the rabbits in the field opposite.  We have had lovely days out to Penrhyn Castle, Plas Newydd and Anglesey.  Thank you for the tasty welcome treats and for a really lovely place to stay.

Maria, Paul, Andrew & Jessica,  Lancashire - June '11

A very beautifully furnished and decorated cottage, very tasteful, everything perfect.  Pictures lovely.  We've replenished the bird food, they get through it quickly!  The weather could have been kinder but it does not detract from the spectacular scenery around North wales.  We would love to come back to this cottage one day.

Susan & Peter,  Croughton, Northants - May '11

Me and my wife had a very pleasant holiday.  Enjoyed our visits to the local attractions.  Hope to come back in the near future.

Wayne & Debbie,  Swansea, S.Wales - May '11

Thank you for the wine etc.  We polished off the wine very quickly on arrival!  Pretty cottage and very friendly village.  We saw many interesting and historical places but best of all was Bodnant Gardens and Bodysgallen Hotel for tea!

Sue & Hugh,  Beaminster, Dorset - May '11

We adored your cottage.  Like everyone else has said, it had everything to make our stay stress free.  Lots of nice touches, thank you.  Perfect location for us and how lovely to watch the lambs.  We were blessed with good weather and after a long day out and about it was great to lounge about back at the cottage. Thank you Jane and Laurence.

Chris & Jean,  Churchdown, Gloucester – May ‘11

Lovely house and fantastic weather all week ! :)   V.nice holiday. Loved watching birds and squirrels in garden.

The Brunsdon Family,  Wiltshire – April ‘11

Had a lovely time once again. Working our way through ’50 Walks in Snowdonia and North Wales’.  So see you again soon. Thanks a lot.

Sandra, Steve   Harrogate - April '11

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in this cosy and comfortable cottage where nothing has beas been forgotten - if you need it, it's there.   Weather remarkably kind.  We hope to be back.

Robert, Jane & Andrew - Sheffield - February '11

Another lovely break at Wern Cottage.  This soon becomes a home from home.  Lovely house in a lovely area of Wales.  Look forward to coming back in the near future.

Greg & Hazel, Winchester, Hampshire - February '11

Perfect again, back soon!  Top tip for excellent food at the high end of pub dining - The White Eagle at Rhoscolyn on Anglesey.

Emma & Michael Glossop Derbyshire - January ’11

Happy New Year!  Another lovely break at Wern Cottage, even the weather improved for us.  Lovely walk on Anglesey - Llandwyn Island - make sure you take plenty of change as toll road barrier is unmanned     (£3.00 as of Dec. 2010).  Have just discovered the Marina at Conwy - will save that for next time - the beach goes on forever!

June & Steve, Wolverhampton – New Year 2010

A very special Christmas treat.  The cottage is beautiful and all the little touches make it a brilliant experience.  Thank you very much to Jane & Laurence for making it a fantastic break.  We very much enjoyed our stay, we especially enjoyed the mountain walks with a relax after in the welcoming ‘Fairy Glen’ Pub (the food is excellent!).  The birds and squirrels are especially delightful to watch.   We will return in the summer to further enjoy the surroundings.  A huge thanks.

Kate & Abi, Manchester – Christmas 2010

A lovely cottage with such welcoming touches.  Loved watching the birds and squirrels.  My husband enjoyed running in the hills and we did some walking. Just one day of bad weather.

Mr. & Mrs. Roberts ,  Preston, Lancs. – November ‘10

We really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage and certainly hope to return.    We found so much to do and see in the area despite the weather.  All the rain meant that Aber Falls were spectacular.  Thank you so much Jane & Laurence for letting us stay here.

Sue & Chris, Farnborough, HANTS – Nov ‘10

Lovely place to stay, might be back in a different month to see North Wales again in different colours.

Klaus, Tiny & Godfried,  Friesland, Netherlands – Oct ‘10

Very peaceful break, so many things to do.  Weather was fantastic, great photographs.  Felt at home very quickly in such a great cottage.  XBox 360 is a great touch!  Loved the open fireplace.  Can't wait to come back.

Greg & Hazel, Winchester, Hampshire - Oct '10

Very well equipped accommodation, owner's have thought of everything.  Very clean.  Thankyou for a wonderful holiday, as always the accommodation makes it.  I would definitely come back.

Dave & Marilyn, Accrington, Lancashire - Oct '10

Can’t add much to what everyone has said already but it really deserves the 5 stars and more.  What amazed us was our 1st night was a moonlit sky full of stars!!  We haven’t seen that in years!  Who said “it always rains in wales?!!”  Will try for another booking at Wern but it won’t be easy because everyone who’s been will want to come back!

The Jackson’s, High Wycombe, BUCKS – Sept ‘10

Enjoyed a very relaxing week. Completely agree with previous comments about Wern Cottage.  Highly recommend the Austrian Restaurant!

June & Steve, Wolverhampton – Sept ‘10

A beautiful cottage in lovely countryside.  Thought of everything in the cottage.  The Welcome Basket was an extra.  Made to feel very welcome on arrival.  Lovely food at the Fairy Glen pub.

Sue & Stan,  Goole, Yorkshire – Sept ‘10

Thank you very much for a great stay – the cottage is beautiful and so well equipped.  The flowers and Welcome Kit were very thoughtful, as was the cute gift for Beth.  We’ve made the most of our National Trust and English Heritage memberships (you get free entry to Cadw properties with your EH card) and have seen some wonderful places.  We’d certainly recommend Wern Cottage to anyone visiting North Wales in the future.  Thanks again for a memorable first family holiday! P.S. The night light on the landing is such a help when you’ve got to be up in the middle of the night with the baby!

Peter, Eleanor & Beth (5 mths), Newcastle upon Tyne – Sept’ 10

A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location – worth every one of your 5 Stars.  You’ve thought of everything from the pegs on the washing line to the salt & vinegar for your fish & chips!  We’ve had a wonderful week exploring the area and beyond and the weather has been glorious!  Our little boy has loved watching the birds and the squirrels (now named Mr. & Mrs. Bob in honour of our squirrels at home!)  He’s had a ball as have we!

Elaine, Alisdair & Cameron, Glasgow - Aug ‘10

I’d say it was like a home from home, if home were nearly so nice!

Emma & Michael Glossop Derbyshire, August’10

An excellent cottage - the best says my wife, of all she/we have stayed in.  Extremely well equipped and comfortable.  The comments earlier in this book say it all.  North Wales is an under rated jewel that is full of things of natural and historic interest.  We've enjoyed Bodnant Gardens, the beach near Porthmadoc, a return visit to No. 6's Portmeirion, the castles of Conwy and Caernarvon and walks high over the village here.  We thoroughly recommend Harry's Bistro at the golf club just beyond Beaumaris; we advise early booking of the railway up Snowdon or early parking to walk up - very busy in high season; also the cable car up the Great Orme is subject to closure in windy weather.  We've found everyone around here very friendly.  Many Thanks.

David & Vera, Andrew & Jean, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham - Aug '10

What a beautiful cottage, definitely worth its 5 stars.  In fact, everything deserves 5 stars, from booking, the warm welcome, the wine and hamper and particularly the birthday present left for Eleanor.  You really have thought of everything!  Our rather adventurous 10 year old daughter absolutely loved ‘Ropes and Ladders’ at Llanberis, but also enjoyed the cable car at The Great Orme and the boat trip round Puffin Island, not to mention watching the wide variety of birds in the garden here.  We will certainly be recommending you to our friends. Thank You!

Carol-Anne, Jonathan and Eleanor,  Harrogate,  N. Yorks - Aug '10

Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage, and all your effort in making this a great home to explore Wales from.  Ella really enjoyed celebrating her birthday here and watching all the birds and squirrels in the garden.  We really loved visiting Greenwood which is fantastic for children of all ages.  We can't wait to make a return trip here.

Ian, Zoë, Louis & Ella,  Worthing, West Sussex - Aug '10

What a lovely place. The Welsh grading system needs at least 2 more stars for you! All the little extras that make this place stand out. The welcome pack / loaf / wine etc. are way beyond necessary, but most acceptable. Thank you so much for making this a very special holiday. The weather could have been better, but we still enjoyed everything. The Bistro is an excellent place for food and a friendly welcome and the Fairy Glen a friendly pub. Thanks again.

Beryl. Beryl, Graham, Jan & John,  Portsmouth & Wolverhampton - July ‘10

A beautiful home from home! We have spent a wonderful week exploring the sights of North wales, especially the castles of Beaumaris and Conway, as well as plas mawr. Our daughter particularly enjoyed building sandcastles and taking her first steps into the sea. A highlight was our trip on a steam train with a brief visit to the picturesque village of Beddgelert. We will certainly be recommending the area and cottage to family & friends. Thank you so much for creating such a lovely place to stay.

Sue, Andrew & Rebecca,  Bonnyrigg, Scotland -  July ‘10

A perfect cottage in a beautiful setting, great views all around.  First class location for cycling, walking and running.  My daughter adored the squirrels, birds and dormouse and made sure they were well fed.  Thanks for a great holiday and hopefully we will return again in the future.  One suggestion would be somewhere to lock up bikes safely.

Donna, Brian, John & Beth,   Southampton - July '10

Thanks for the great comments.  We will definitely look into providing a safe lock-up facility for bikes as soon as possible. - Jane & Laurence

A wonderful cottage in a wonderful location.  Thank you for making this holiday so special and one we will always remember.  For anyone wishing to eat out you can’t go wrong dining at the ‘Bunkers Bistro”  good food and lovely views.   July ’10  Skegby, Notts.

Kerry & John,   Skegby, Notts - July '10

What can we say that hasn't been said?  A beautiful cottage, everything you could ever want and a good location.  We had a wonderful time, the weather was superb.  Thank you for the welcome pack and fresh flowers, a lovely touch.  Hope to come back again, a week isn't long enough at such a lovely place.

Pat & Steve, Welling, Kent - June '10

We had a grand stay at the 5 Star Wern Cottage.  It is everything and more than we anticipated.  You have made us feel welcome and pampered.
The scenery and day trips are beyond comparison.  Thank You for a lovely stay.

Pat & Tom,  Wisconsin, USA - June '10

Thank you for creating and sharing such a great place to stay.  The house is beautiful and a perfect location for exploring North Wales.  We hope to be back and stay with you again.

Abby & Matt,  Houston, USA - June '10

An amazing week - weather glorious, all sunburnt.  Fantastic walk up Snowdon and Cwm Idwal.  Excellent day trips to Portmeirion and Chester.  Girls loved swimming with Holywell and Llandudno swimming clubs.  House lovely, thank you.

Simon, Rosemary, Jennifer & Sarah,  Leamington Spa - May '10

Peaceful stay in the cottage.  So comfortable, where you feel at home, with birds and squirrels or visit the main places of North Wales.  Thank You for all !

Viviane and Michael,  Onhaye, Belgium - May '10

We loved your cottage, especially after a spartan stay in the week previous.  The attention to detail, for example the welcome gifts were truly appreciated.  The location was ideal for us with Snowdonia, Anglesey and Sychnant Pass close by.  An excellent selection of CD's and DVD's was appreciated despite the lack of rain.  Your hospitality and the charm and comfort of Wern Cottage enveloped and relaxed us!  Thanks.

Jeff & Joan,  Southampton, Hants - May '10

A lovely first holiday with our baby son.  A great base to explore around and a lovely cottage.  Will definitely be returning!  Thank You.
P.S.  Fantastic hearty meal in the Austrian  - fantastic choice of puddings!

Alex, Nick & Alfred, Maidenhead, Berkshire - May '10

A wonderful week in a wonderful cottage.  A real home from home.  Thank you for your thoughtfulness and making everything so lovely.

Jane & David, Llangwrm, Pembrokeshire - May '10

The cottage was super and the weather was excellent.  Thanks for the wine, bara brith and milk.  Most welcome.  The birds and the squirrel were a delight to watch every morning.

Sue & Stuart, Worcester - April '10

Beautiful cottage, well deserved 5 star.  Stunning location with superb walks.  Great weather, little lambs and birds - a perfect week. Thank You.

Liz & Gwyn, Farnborough, HANTS - April '10

Have had a great time visiting my sister who has been staying in this most beautiful home from home cottage.  All the details perfectly matched and so warm, cosy and friendly.  Thank you and well done.

Janet,  Lancing, West Sussex - April '10

Really enjoyed our stay here.  Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.  Glorious weather but a shame we were too early to see any Puffins!

John, Judy, Lizzie & Kate,   Ashford, Kent - April '10

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful place.  Our first time in North Wales but certainly not our last.  Thank You.  One week just wasn't enough.

Sandra, Steve, Laura & Eamon,   Harrogate - April '10

Had lovely holiday despite the rain.  Really enjoyed playing in 6 inches of snow near Trefriw - fabulous lake walk.  Cottage spotless and well equipped - Thank You!

Emma, Brian, Sam & Joe,  Rearsby, Leics - April '10

Thoroughly enjoyed our week here.  It is such a pretty house set in a stunning location which is really relaxing.  The squirrel and blue tits obviously love it too!  Thank you for all the little extras around the house, especially the gorgeous daffodils in every room, which were so welcoming.

Heather & Stuart,  South Wales - March '10

Thank you for prompting us to explore yet another part of Wales.  You have created a first class home rather than a holiday let, which we have enjoyed sharing.  Your attention to detail and comfort could not be exceeded.  Diolch o galon i chi'ch dau!

Margaret & Basil,  South Wales - March '10

We have had a really perfect holiday in a most wonderful cottage.  The attention to detail is so obvious and we give a huge thank you to Jane and Laurence for this and they deserve to go from success to success for their hard work in reflecting the perfect home from home for their visitors.

Ian, Tracey, Danielle & Lauren,  Ceredigion - February '10

Perfect.  Already booked the next stay.  Peerless in my experience. Worth every star.

Emma & Michael,  Derbyshire - February & March '10

Fantastic cottage! We’ve really enjoyed our stay—it seems as if you’ve thought of everything needed for the perfect holiday place. We’ll be back - hopefully sooner rather than later.’

Erin, Thomas, Debby & Tobias, Loughborough - January ‘10

Had the most wonderful time, everything we needed and more. Beautiful cottage and lovely welcome. 7 days just wasn’t enough. Perfect, thank you.’

Kev & Carol, Stockport - Christmas ‘09

‘Beautifully decorated and furnished cottage - lots of little touches to make life comfortable - all the equipment and appliances you could possibly need. We would love to visit again to enjoy the restful atmosphere and beautiful scenery.’

Linda & Kay, Wooton-under-Edge - November ‘09

What a lovely house! You’ve done a great job! Belinda doesn’t want to go home as she’s not completed Labyrinth yet……..we’ll be back. We even had great weather.'

Nigel, Hilary & Belinda, King’s Lynn - November ‘09

‘It was our 1st cottage holiday together and you made it so special for us with the scones and bread etc. and the fresh flowers lots of fuel for a romantic fire. The kitchen is fantastically equipped.  Little touches like this make such a difference.  We also enjoyed looking through the walk books and we watched a couple of DVDs as well and I thought the binoculars and bird book in the conservatory were a really good idea’.

Laura & Rob, Hitchin - October ‘09

‘We’ve stayed in a few places before but this time it felt like we were borrowing a friends house. A real home from home. We appreciated all the little touches’.

Gurnam & Rebecca, London - September ‘09

‘For me it was the lovely nostalgia of seeing all my childhood holiday haunts once again. I'm amazed how little has changed in 40 years - we saw only one "new" house in the village - otherwise all looked externally as it was before. You've done wonders with the cottage …… I particularly liked sitting out in the side garden’.

Helen & Colin, Market Harborough - September ‘09

‘We’ve really enjoyed our stay, thank you for providing such a wonderful base for all our trips out. We love the way you’ve decorated and all the attention to detail, to make this a very comfortable cottage with everything we could possibly need’.

Elaine & Colin, Sevenoaks - September ‘09
